Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo Airlines, Pieter Elbers on Thursday addressed the recent incident involving a passenger assaulting a pilot, deeming it "unacceptable." Despite challenges posed by severe fog disrupting flights in northern India, he assured that operations are back to normal, with a notable decrease in cancellations.

Elbers acknowledged the aviation industry facing one of the worst fog episodes in years, causing significant disruptions. He empathised with passengers enduring stress and frustration due to prolonged delays.

He further commended the extraordinary efforts of IndiGo staff who went beyond their usual duties to manage the situation.

The unfortunate incident involved a passenger, Sahil Katariya, being arrested for assaulting a pilot during an announcement about a delayed takeoff at Delhi airport.

A video of the incident circulated on social media, depicting Katariya striking the pilot inside the aircraft bound for Goa. Elbers firmly condemned the assault, stating that it is now in the hands of the authorities for appropriate action.

Highlighting the vast operational scope of IndiGo, Elbers noted the airline's operation of approximately 400 domestic routes, emphasizing that this is still relatively modest compared to the country's size.

Meanwhile, IndiGo sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CAE Simulation Training Private Limited (CSTPL) to enhance Flight Crew Training for its ATR aircraft fleet. As part of this collaboration, CSTPL will install a state-of-the-art Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for ATR aircraft, offering exclusive training facilities.
