The Indian Army has effectively repulsed a series of coordinated drone attacks launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces along the western border, including the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, on the intervening night of 8 and 9 May. The Army confirmed the countermeasures, stating that a "befitting reply" was given to the cross-border aggression.
In an official statement shared on X, the Army said Pakistan launched multiple drone strikes and used other munitions across the entire western frontier. In addition to aerial aggression, Pakistani troops also engaged in numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the LoC.
Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous cease fire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs. #IndianArmy remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignity and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded with force,” it said in the statement on X.
The Indian Army also released a video showing the destruction of a Pakistani post in airstrikes carried out across the LoC. While the exact sector where the post was targeted has not been disclosed, the footage highlights India's strong and calibrated response to the ongoing ceasefire violations.
Meanwhile, fresh hostilities erupted as Pakistan resumed heavy shelling along the LoC in sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, and Chowkibal Kupwara, early on Friday morning. Several houses were damaged in Uri and Chowkibal Kupwara, with reports indicating that a woman was killed in Uri.
As tensions escalated, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Border (IB) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. Military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur also came under attack, with Indian air defence units successfully intercepting at least eight missiles fired from Pakistan towards the border areas, including the strategically significant Jammu Airport.
Sources indicate that Indian forces used S-400 missile defence systems, surface-to-air missiles, and integrated counter unmanned aircraft systems to thwart the Pakistani attacks. In its response, India reportedly deployed kamikaze drones to destroy a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore, reflecting a calibrated and robust counterstrike.
Amid the rising hostilities, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio separately spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging both sides to de-escalate tensions.
US President Donald Trump also called for restraint, stating that he wants both countries to “stop” the escalating hostilities, adding, “If I can do anything to help, I will be there.”
