India has become Argentina's sixth-largest economic partner, reflecting the steady expansion of bilateral trade and strategic cooperation, Argentine Ambassador to India Mariano Caucino said on Friday.

Addressing the 17th Agriculture Leadership Summit in New Delhi, the envoy said relations between the two countries are expected to strengthen further in line with India's growing global economic influence.

"Currently, India has become our sixth-largest economic partner, second only to major economies such as the United States, China and the European Union, as well as our two major neighbours, Brazil and Chile," Caucino said.

He noted that bilateral trade between India and Argentina reached nearly $6 billion in 2025, underlining the growing importance of the relationship.

Describing India as one of the world's leading economies, the ambassador said the country's rising global stature has opened new opportunities for deeper engagement across multiple sectors.

Caucino highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relationship between the two nations, recalling that Argentina established its embassy in New Delhi in 1950, making it one of the first Latin American countries to have a resident ambassador in independent India.

He said India and Argentina share democratic values and have worked together on global platforms such as the G20. In recent years, he added, the two countries have found greater convergence of national interests driven by the complementary nature of their economies.

The ambassador pointed out that Argentina became India's largest supplier of edible oils in 2025, while recent milestones in bilateral ties include the opening of Argentina's Consulate General in Mumbai, the creation of an Agricultural Attaché's office and the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.

Looking ahead, Caucino said Argentina is keen to deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy and critical minerals to support India's long-term development goals.

He also said Argentina's vast agricultural resources, energy potential and relatively stable geopolitical environment position it as a reliable partner in strengthening global food and energy security.
