EAM Jaishankar Assures India Will Cooperate With Future US Leaders.

In a recent statement, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed confidence that India will maintain strong relations with the United States regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential elections.

Speaking at the launch of Indiaspora's Impact Report in New Delhi, Jaishankar emphasised that India respects the American electoral process and is prepared to work with whichever candidate emerges victorious.

Jaishankar highlighted that, historically, India has been able to collaborate effectively with successive U.S. administrations. He noted, “Generally, we don’t comment on other people’s elections because we also hope others don’t comment on us. The American system will decide its leader, and over the last two decades, we have every confidence that we will be able to work with the president, no matter who it is.”

Turning to global issues, Jaishankar acknowledged the challenging geopolitical climate. He described the current period as exceptionally difficult, citing ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as broader global instability. “I’m an optimistic person, but with a great deal of sobriety, I must say we are facing a particularly tough time,” Jaishankar remarked.

He pointed out that the next five years could be fraught with challenges, including conflicts in various regions and the enduring impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “What we see in the Middle East, Ukraine, Southeast Asia, and East Asia, along with the continued effects of COVID, paints a grim picture,” he added.

Jaishankar also touched on the economic difficulties faced by many countries today. He noted that global trade has become increasingly challenging, with many nations experiencing foreign exchange shortages and other disruptions. “Economic challenges are mounting, with more countries struggling due to trade difficulties and foreign exchange issues,” he said.

Additionally, the minister highlighted the global repercussions of climate events. He mentioned that these events are not merely news but are causing significant disruptions worldwide, affecting entire regions and making them dysfunctional. “Climate events, such as those occurring in the Red Sea, have globally disruptive consequences that affect entire regions,” Jaishankar stated.

EAM Jaishankar's comments reflect India's readiness to navigate a complex global landscape and maintain robust international relationships despite the uncertainties ahead.
