The entire Nation is waiting for the outcome of the high-stakes assembly elections that have been conducted in four states and one Union Territory. The vote counting process will decide the political fate of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the UT of Puducherry after a vigorous electoral process that witnessed an overwhelming turnout from the voters.
Apart from these major elections, the outcome of the bye-elections for eight assembly constituencies in Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura will also be announced today. This election is considered to be an important gauge for the prevailing political atmosphere, with multiple exit polls indicating a range of scenarios from stability to fierce competition in some areas.
Counting of the votes has started through postal ballots, followed by EVMs. Although early indications may become evident during the first two hours, the more accurate results from the total mandate in the 824 constituencies shall be known by noon.
Extensive security arrangements have been made at all counting centres to ensure a smooth process. Access is strictly limited to authorised election officials and party representatives
In line with ECI statutory provisions, May 4 has been declared a Dry Day across all poll-going regions. The sale and distribution of liquor will be prohibited until the counting is officially concluded.
