The mother of a teenage girl featured in a viral video making abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed her gratitude after the Prime Minister chose to forgive her daughter, describing the gesture as a "new life".
Speaking to the media, the mother said she thanked the Prime Minister with folded hands for opting for forgiveness over retaliation, viewing the decision as a fresh start for the minor. She noted that the Prime Minister’s response on her daughter’s birthday felt like the ultimate gift, effectively giving the teenager a second chance.
The developments follow a video message posted on Instagram by Prime Minister Modi on Friday, in which he urged restraint after vulgar slogans directed at him were chanted during a student demonstration at Jantar Mantar organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) regarding the NEET-UG paper leak. Describing those who hurled abuses as "misguided," he stated that anger or retaliation was not the solution.
After that, there appeared an apology video by the 15-year-old girl on YouTube. Apologising for her actions, she said she was deeply sorry about her behaviour and admitted that she could not justify herself. She said that she went to attend the protest march along with her friends as they had been to Connaught Place near her location and got caught up in the crowd.
Despite her public apology, legal proceedings had already been initiated. Following a complaint filed in Noida regarding the abusive language used during the 23 July protest, the police registered a Zero FIR, which was subsequently transferred to the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi. It was claimed that the comments were disrespectful to the post of the prime minister and could lead to a disturbance in public peace.
Mother requested the FIR to be withdrawn as the official records stated that her daughter is of 25 years of age whereas she was 15 years old. Moreover, she requested the government to deny access to social media and right to protest to children as they could be manipulated easily and should concentrate on education.
In the meantime, the founder of CJP, Abhijeet Dipke, was not silent on social media about the issue of the police case and questioned the administration regarding their stance in the video of the Prime Minister as to whether their forgiveness includes the withdrawal of charges or not.
