GN Saibaba, a former Delhi University professor acquitted months ago in a case involving his alleged links to Maoists, died in a Hyderabad hospital on Saturday following complications after surgery.
He was 57 and was imprisoned for around a decade for alleged connections to Maoists before his acquittal by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court seven months ago.
Saibaba was being treated at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad for a gallbladder infection and died after surgery.
Saibaba and five others accused of links with Maoists were acquitted in March by the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench, which ruled that the charges against him were not proved by the prosecution.
His life sentence was also overturned.
