The Delhi Police Crime Branch recently made a significant breakthrough by uncovering an international organ transplant racket involving the arrest of seven individuals, including a doctor from a private hospital. This illicit operation spanned across Bangladesh and India, as revealed by Amit Goel, DCP Crime Branch.

According to DCP Goel, "The arrested individuals were part of an organised racket facilitating illegal organ transplants. The mastermind, a Bangladeshi national, orchestrated operations involving donors and recipients from Bangladesh. Among those apprehended is Russell, responsible for arranging patients and donors. Additionally, a female doctor implicated in these activities has been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing."

Responding to these developments, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (IAH) issued a statement clarifying their stance. "The doctor in question was engaged on a fee-for-service basis and was not on the hospital's regular payroll. This arrest pertains to actions not connected with Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. In response to police inquiries, the hospital has suspended the doctor pending further investigation."

The statement further assured, "IAH has provided all requested information to the Crime Branch and remains committed to cooperating fully with the authorities."

Interestingly, it was discovered that the female doctor also worked on a similar basis at another private hospital in Noida. Yatharth Hospitals, however, distanced itself from any direct association with her.

"The doctor in question is affiliated with another hospital, and Yatharth Hospitals maintain stringent ethical standards and prioritise patient safety in all our procedures," a spokesperson clarified.

He added, "We have fully cooperated with investigative procedures, and there have been no allegations of wrongdoing against our hospital or our operational protocols."

The Delhi Police continue their investigation to unravel the full extent of this illegal organ transplant network, highlighting the need for stringent measures to prevent such exploitative practices in healthcare.
