Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India next week to attend the BRICS National Security Advisers' meeting in New Delhi, marking his first trip to the country in nearly a year amid efforts by New Delhi and Beijing to further stabilise bilateral ties.

According to a statement issued by China's Foreign Ministry on Thursday, Wang will attend the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security from June 22 to 23 at the invitation of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, last visited India in August 2025. During that visit, he held talks with Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

His latest visit comes as India and China continue confidence-building measures aimed at restoring normalcy in ties that deteriorated sharply following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.

Relations began showing signs of improvement after Jaishankar and Wang held a series of meetings in 2024, culminating in a disengagement agreement announced in October that year. Since then, both countries have sought to revive diplomatic engagement and bilateral mechanisms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan in October 2024 and directed officials to revive dialogue channels.

Subsequently, Doval travelled to Beijing in December 2024 for talks with Wang under the Special Representatives mechanism on the boundary issue. Wang's August 2025 visit to India saw another round of discussions under the framework.

Both sides have since resumed initiatives such as the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and worked towards restoring direct passenger flights to strengthen people-to-people contacts.

Wang is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Doval and Jaishankar during his stay in New Delhi.

India currently holds the chairmanship of the BRICS grouping, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
