A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Lucknow for the horrific murder and dismemberment of his father following a dispute over his career path, local police confirmed.
The victim, 49-year-old Manvendra Singh—a businessman involved in the pharmaceutical and liquor industries—had been reported missing since Friday. The grim reality surfaced when officers visited the family home, discovered human remains inside a blue barrel, and began interrogating his son, Akshat Pratap Singh.
Under intense questioning, Akshat reportedly confessed to the killing and the subsequent attempt to hide the evidence. According to authorities, the motive stemmed from a long-standing conflict: Manvendra wanted his son to prepare for competitive medical exams, a path Akshat vehemently rejected. This friction had previously caused the young man to flee his home.

The fatal confrontation occurred around 4:30 pm on Friday. Police said Akshat shot his father with a rifle before dragging the body from the third floor to a ground-floor room to begin dismembering it.
When his sister discovered the scene, Akshat allegedly intimidated her into silence and continued the process in her presence. He then packed various body parts in a plastic bag and disposed of them near Sadaruna, while storing the torso in a drum inside the house.
Forensic teams are currently collecting evidence at the residence and authorities are working to recover the missing remains. Akshat remains in custody as investigators finalise the charges. Vikrant Veer, a senior police official in Lucknow’s Ashiana area, stated that a formal case will be registered under the relevant legal sections to ensure further judicial proceedings.
