In a significant operation on Tuesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police successfully dismantled a cross-border smuggling racket dealing in illegal weapons and drugs. This joint effort led to the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin and arms.

The operation, conducted by Tarn Taran Police, resulted in the confiscation of 3.124 kg of heroin. Alongside the drugs, authorities also seized a pistol, five magazines, 111 rounds of ammunition, two weighing scales, and Rs 3 lakh in cash.

The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab Police shared details of the operation on social media, highlighting the collaboration with BSF and the significant haul of narcotics and weaponry.

According to the DGP, the smugglers utilised drones to transport drugs from Pakistan across the border into the Tarn Taran area. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further connections and lead to more recoveries and arrests.

The DGP emphasised Punjab Police’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, indicating that efforts are being intensified to dismantle such smuggling networks.

This operation follows an earlier incident where vigilant BSF troops recovered a packet of suspected heroin from Dhanoe Kalan village near the Amritsar district border.

During the night hours of Sunday, BSF troops detected a suspicious package and promptly secured the area. The search operation yielded a packet of suspected heroin weighing around 575 grams, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, with a copper wire loop and four illuminating strips attached to it.

The BSF troops had acted swiftly upon hearing a suspicious dropping sound near the border. They fenced off the suspected dropping zone and conducted a thorough search, resulting in the recovery of the narcotics.

The press release detailed the meticulous search operation, which lasted until nearly midnight and concluded with the successful seizure of the heroin packet in a farming field in Dhanoa Kalan village.

The recent busts underscore the persistent threat of cross-border smuggling and the efforts of security forces to combat it. The use of drones by smugglers to transport contraband highlights the evolving tactics employed by these networks. However, the successful operations by BSF and Punjab Police demonstrate their vigilance and capability in addressing these challenges.

The ongoing investigations aim to trace the origins and destinations of the seized contraband, identifying the broader network involved in these illegal activities. The collaboration between BSF and Punjab Police is crucial in curbing the smuggling operations that threaten regional security.

These operations not only disrupt the immediate smuggling activities but also send a strong message to the networks involved in such illegal practices.

The commitment of Punjab Police and BSF to safeguarding the state’s security remains steadfast, as they continue to work together to dismantle these smuggling rings and ensure the safety and well-being of the region's inhabitants.
