A major security alert was triggered in the capital this morning after Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta received a threatening email, warning of an imminent bomb attack on the Vidhan Sabha building and the nearby metro station. The anonymous message, which arrived just as the House was preparing to sit for the crucial budget session, reportedly included personal threats against a list of high-profile figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta.

Security forces, including the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dog units, were immediately scrambled to the Assembly premises to conduct a thorough sweep of the site. While the threat caused significant concern — mentioning other senior leaders such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa — initial searches have fortunately turned up nothing suspicious. Police officials have confirmed that the area is secure and that proceedings are continuing under heightened vigilance.

This incident is the latest in a troubling wave of hoax threats that have plagued Delhi's public institutions over the past few months. Just weeks ago, half a dozen schools and several prominent bank branches — including the State Bank of India at AIIMS and an Axis Bank in Connaught Place — were forced to evacuate following similar electronic warnings. In every instance, the threats were found to be groundless.

However, despite this disruption, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht declared that the Assembly would not be intimidated and that the session would proceed as planned. Investigators are now trying to track the source of the emails, as the authorities look to crack down on the perpetrators of these increasingly frequent and resource-draining hoaxes.
