Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Tuesday received a bomb threat shortly before the scheduled appearance of Jasir Bilal Wani, the second person arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Red Fort bomb blast case, before the Principal Sessions Judge. The threat was later confirmed to be a hoax.

The same day, Delhi’s Saket Court and Tis Hazari Court complexes also received similar bomb threats, as confirmed by the respective bar associations. Advocate Anil Basoya, Secretary of the Saket Bar Association, stated that court work was suspended for two hours following the threat, after which normal operations were resumed.

Advocate Tarun Rana, Secretary of the New Delhi Bar Association, further informed that the bomb threats were received via emails sent to the district court complexes. He emphasised that the threats turned out to be a hoax, adding that there was no element of fear among lawyers or staff and that “courts are functioning in a smooth manner.”

Following the threat at Patiala House Court, personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed outside the court premises ahead of the production of the accused, Jasir Bilal Wani. Security arrangements were significantly tightened, and bomb disposal squads along with dog squad teams were summoned to thoroughly search the premises.

Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, a resident of Qazigund, is the NIA’s second arrest in the Red Fort bomb blast investigation. He is set to be produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Wani was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with his uncle, for questioning on Saturday.

The arrest is linked to the recent busting of a terror module in Faridabad and the deadly bomb blast at Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which claimed the lives of more than 10 people.

The Wani family are neighbours of the terror module members and doctor brothers Adil Rather and Muzaffar Rather. While Muzaffar Rather is believed to still be absconding, police arrested Adil Rather from Uttar Pradesh earlier this month in connection with his alleged role in pasting posters of the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad that issued warnings in the Nowgam area.
