There seems to be an indication from the government about the possible resolution of the parliamentary logjam with the announcement that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, will respond to the House in relation to the actions of the police against protesting students in Delhi. This follows several days of continued disruption as a result of the demand for answers from the ministers by the Opposition following the commencement of the Monsoon Session.

The stalemate stems from a June 20 demonstration organised by the CJP, during which law enforcement reportedly deployed heavy-handed measures, including pellet guns, against student agitators. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other senior figures have attributed the police response directly to directives from the Home Ministry, under whose jurisdiction the Delhi Police operates. In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has strongly stated that Shah must provide a complete statement explaining the activities of security forces, as he considered this case of utmost importance for the nation and needed immediate attention from the Parliament.

Demonstrations on daily basis outside the doors of Parliament and slogans being raised inside the Houses have paralysed all the parliamentary activities during the current session, which commenced on July 20. Except for the passing of Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, other policy decisions, including the law regarding women’s reservation, delimitation, and changes in Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), still need to be passed with just four days remaining until adjournment. With the expectation of important debates in the coming period of the session, Congress has announced a strict whip for all of its members till August 12, along with the help of its INDIA allies.
