HM Amit Shah Praises PM Modi’s Global Biofuels Alliance for Sugarcane.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s establishment of the Global Biofuels Alliance, lauding it as a significant boon for sugarcane farmers. Speaking on Saturday, Shah highlighted the advantages that this new global platform will offer to the agricultural sector, particularly to those involved in sugarcane cultivation.

According to Shah, the formation of the Global Biofuels Alliance during the recent G20 summit represents a major opportunity for sugarcane farmers. The alliance, headquartered in Gurugram, is expected to create a global marketplace for sugarcane products, benefiting farmers, cooperatives, and sugar mills across India.

Amit Shah emphasised that this initiative will enable the export of sugarcane and its by-products on a global scale, significantly improving the economic prospects for those involved in this industry.

The Global Biofuels Alliance is a multi-stakeholder partnership comprising governments, international organisations, and industries, as stated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The alliance, launched under India’s G20 presidency, aims to bring together major biofuel consumers and producers to advance the development and deployment of biofuels. This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards energy transition, economic growth, and job creation.

Shah’s remarks came during the ‘Sugar Conclave and National Efficiency Award 2022-23’ ceremony in the national capital, where he was the chief guest. He noted the progress that the sugar industry has made over the past decade under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Shah highlighted that the area under sugarcane cultivation has expanded from 5 million hectares in 2013-14 to 6 million hectares today. This increase, he pointed out, represents an 18 percent growth.

Additionally, sugarcane production has surged from 352 million tonnes to 491 million tonnes, marking a 40 percent rise, while gross sugar production has seen a 58 percent increase.

The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) Limited, which organised the award ceremony, is a key body representing all cooperative sugar factories and state sugar federations across India. The NFCSF plays a pivotal role in the sugar industry by supporting cooperative factories and advocating for the interests of sugarcane farmers.

Shah’s praise for the Global Biofuels Alliance underscores its potential to transform the sugar industry and provide substantial benefits to sugarcane farmers.

By creating a global export platform, this initiative aims to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the sugarcane sector, ultimately contributing to broader economic growth and development.
