Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters staged a demonstration on Sunday at the ITO foot-over bridge to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The party workers shouted slogans against the BJP, which rules the Centre and, thus, governs the probe agency Enforcement Directorate, which arrested the Delhi Chief Minister on Thursday.

The protesters, who hung a banner that read "Main Bhi Kejriwal" from the bridge, were removed from the spot by the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police intervened and removed five to six demonstrators from the foot-over bridge to maintain law and order, according to a senior police official.

"We removed five to six workers from a foot-over bridge in ITO to maintain law and order," a senior police officer said.

In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva led a protest against Kejriwal, calling for stringent punishment in the excise policy case for which he was arrested. BJP supporters also burned an effigy of AAP leaders during the demonstration.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal gave his first direction on Sunday while in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

"He (Kejriwal) has issued his first directive while in ED custody. These directives concern the city government's water department. Water Minister Atishi will announce the directives later today," said party sources.

The AAP has affirmed that Kejriwal will continue serving as Chief Minister even if he is sent to jail.
