On Wednesday, a tragic accident occurred at Paramillo Airport in the state of Táchira, Venezuela, when a light aircraft crashed during take-off, resulting in the deaths of two crew members.
The aircraft, a twin-engine Piper PA-31T1 bearing the registration number YV 1443, encountered difficulties shortly after initiating its departure at approximately 09:52 am local time. According to reports, the plane failed to gain sufficient altitude, stalled moments after liftoff, and subsequently plummeted onto the runway, where it erupted into flames.
The National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) issued a statement confirming that emergency response teams and firefighting units were promptly dispatched to the scene. In accordance with Venezuelan regulations, the Junta Investigadora de Accidentes de Aviación Civil (JIAAC) was activated to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Initial video evidence of the incident shows the aircraft achieving a brief ascent before it abruptly lost control and crashed. While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, preliminary sources have indicated that a possible tyre burst during take-off may have contributed to the tragedy, though no definitive conclusions have been reached.
Social media platforms were soon flooded with videos depicting thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the runway at Paramillo Airport. According to data from the flight-tracking website Flightradar24, the aircraft had primarily operated within Venezuela but had also recently completed international flights to Panama and Cuba.
