US elections: Trump hires five advisers for campaign boost

The move comes amid criticism and internal challenges for the Trump campaign, which has experienced a rough stretch.

August has reportedly been the “worst month” of 2024 for Donald Trump's presidential campaign, prompting concerns among senior aides and challenges to their positions. Photo - Files.

Donald Trump expanded his senior advisory team on Thursday, adding five new aides, including his former 2016 campaign chief as he worked out strategies to take on Kamala Harris in the presidential elections.

The new hires are Taylor Budowich, Alex Pfeiffer and Alex Bruesewitz from the Trump-aligned Maga Inc. political action committee, along with former campaign veterans Corey Lewandowski and Tim Murtaugh.

The move comes amid criticism and internal challenges for the Trump campaign, which has experienced a rough stretch.

Lewandowski, who previously ran Trump’s 2016 campaign, will return in a more formal advisory role.

Murtaugh, who served as communications director in 2020, is also rejoining in a broader capacity.

Budowich, Pfeiffer, and Bruesewitz are expected to enhance the campaign’s outreach efforts, with Bruesewitz focusing on social media strategies.

This reshuffle reflects a pattern where Trump frequently adjusts his campaign team during the summer months, as seen in 2016 and 2020.

The recent changes come after what has been described as the campaign’s “worst month” of 2024, prompting concerns among senior aides and challenges to their positions.

Later on Thursday, Trump held a press event at his New Jersey golf club, where he noted that he is “entitled to personal attacks” on Harris, expressing his anger over her actions.

Trump stated, “I don’t have a lot of respect for her,” and defended his strategy despite criticism that it isn’t working.

When asked about the new hires, Trump downplayed the significance of the changes, calling Lewandowski a “personal envoy” and denying any strategic shift.

The Harris campaign responded with a sarcastic advisory to reporters, suggesting that Trump’s event was likely to “ramble incoherently” and highlighting that it was held in a location “not a battleground state.”

Since Joe Biden announced his exit from the presidential race, the challenge for Trump in the form of a resilient Kamala Harris has made the entire Donald Trump camp nervous in the ongoing presidential race.

Many political experts predict Trump’s return to office due to the backlash against the Democrat-run Biden administration over the Gaza conflict.

They suggest that despite Kamala Harris being the Democrats' top choice, the ongoing Gaza invasion will significantly impact the election outcome.
