US President Donald Trump has claimed that American war objectives in Iran are nearing completion and that US forces will achieve all stated goals within a short timeframe. His remarks came hours after he asserted that Iran had asked for a ceasefire — a claim that Tehran immediately denied.
US-Israeli forces continued aerial bombing on Wednesday night, killing nine people in Larestan and Mianeh in the latest strikes. Iranian counterattacks, meanwhile, caused injuries and damage in central Israel.
Firefighters in Kuwait extinguished a blaze at fuel tanks at the country’s main airport following an unverified attack reportedly linked to Iran.
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates also reported intercepting drones and missiles in the early hours of Thursday.
Iran’s state media said the new wave of missile attacks began “after Trump announced that he had destroyed Iran’s missile capabilities”.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Trump’s speech as “powerful” and “clear about our objectives in Iran”.
In a post on X, Rubio wrote that the objectives were to destroy Iran’s weapons factories, navy, air force, and its chances of ever acquiring a nuclear weapon.
“The President’s leadership sends a message to the world that the United States will defend its people and its interests and uphold peace through strength,” Rubio added.
