Under pressure amid rising fuel costs and inflation in domestic markets, US President Donald Trump has cancelled his proposed attack on Iran, saying he wants a rapid deal on the Strait of Hormuz.

He made these comments as both these issues are taking centre stage in US politics, with the opposition Democratic Party taking strong note of the concerns in the US markets.

Fearing backlash ahead of the mid-term elections scheduled for November later this year, Trump has decided to hold his planned military strikes.

Late on Saturday evening, he said “the perimeters of a deal have been agreed to”, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The announcement came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any “aggression” by the US and Israel will be met with a “decisive and proportionate response” in separate phone calls with the foreign ministers of Turkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

In his latest post on Truth Social, Trump said, “The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran at levels of military terror, strength, and power not seen since World War II.

Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal have been agreed to.

This would include the IMMEDIATE, COMPLETE, and TOTAL OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”

“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.

The country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE. “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” his post further read.

On the other hand, the Trump administration’s secretary of state, Marco Rubio, said that the latest US strikes on Iran forced them (Iran) to resume negotiations.
