US President Donald Trump has warned that time is running out for a peace deal between Washington and Tehran. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have reported fresh drone attacks. Abu Dhabi said a drone attack near its Barakah nuclear plant sparked a fire. Analysts like Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute, said both Tehran and Washington appear convinced that another round of hostilities could further strengthen their side going into future negotiations.
He said, “I believe Trump will definitely begin military strikes on Iran in the coming hours or days.”
"The Trump administration considers the last outcome to be a failure since the war with Iran was supposed to end quickly with a decisive US victory, but the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s strong stand has somewhat become a failed outcome of the military strikes,” he added.
Iran and the United States are ready to fight it out on the battlefield, as both sides see military victory as the only solution to the crisis.
The Iranian side is particularly trying to bite off more than it can chew. Another round of hostilities could clearly send them into darkness, and US forces assembled in the region could stay in the Gulf for months, if not years.
According to regional experts, the United States did not even use ten per cent of its military strength against Iran, fearing that it could leave a negative impression of the country.
However, Iranian diplomats moving around a few power centres in Asia could lead the country to eternal chaos, as it is currently dealing with immensely difficult diplomatic times.
But from Tehran’s perspective, this is very much a deterrence posture, signalling readiness rather than compromise.
At the same time, the diplomatic window is narrowing further and further as the rhetoric from both sides continues to escalate.
