Tel Aviv was rocked by the first rocket attack since January, as sirens blared throughout the city and parts of central Israel on Sunday. According to the Israeli health ministry, rockets were launched, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that eight rockets were fired from the Rafah area in southern Gaza, with some projectiles intercepted before causing damage.

Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it launched a "large missile barrage" in retaliation for what it called Israel's "massacres against civilians."

This comes as Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant met with military officials in Rafah to assess the situation and reinforce efforts to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.

The violence in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties. In the last 24 hours alone, the Gaza health ministry reported 81 deaths and 223 injuries due to Israeli military operations. Since the conflict's escalation on October 7, a reported 35,984 people have been killed, with 80,643 others injured.

The Palestinian health ministry has accused Israeli forces of committing multiple massacres against families, leaving many victims trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and civil defence crews.

The ministry's figures, however, do not distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties, nor do they account for the thousands potentially still missing or buried in the debris.

This latest attack underscores the relentless cycle of violence and the grave humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region, with both sides continuing to suffer heavy losses and significant destruction.
