Poland scrambles jets after tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalate, following retaliatory drone strikes in recent days.

Both Ukraine and Russia have launched multiple drone strikes on each other. Kyiv has carried out strikes on oil and energy infrastructure. While Moscow has responded with severe missile and drone strikes on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which has left more than 500,000 Ukrainians without power.

In response, Poland has scrambled armed forces and fighter jets while putting all forces on high alert amid chances of further escalation.

Polish armed forces said on X, “These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing the airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened region." Similar measures have been announced by Lithuania after the country witnessed multiple drone incursions near the critical infrastructure on Sunday.

The attacks have left one woman dead and nine others wounded in a "combined strike" on the south-eastern region of Zaporizhzhia, regional head Ivan Fedorov said.

The Ukrainian armed forces said an air raid alert was in effect for the entire country. "Moscow has increasingly targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure as temperatures start to drop. Last week, Russia attacked Ukraine's gas infrastructure in the largest strike of the war so far.

The war between the two nations has escalated following Trump’s comments last week, saying that the US was ready to provide military aid and intelligence to Kyiv. Putin, on the other hand, has directed his forces to launch advances on the battle line while putting intense pressure on the Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region.
