Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in France on Tuesday to participate in the G7 Summit being held at Évian-les-Bains till June 17. India's participation in the summit as a partner country marks its 13th appearance at the prestigious gathering of major global economies, while PM Modi's attendance represents his seventh consecutive participation in the forum.

The summit is expected to focus on a range of pressing global issues, including economic growth, trade, energy security, technological innovation, climate change and geopolitical challenges. As one of the invited partner nations, India is expected to contribute to discussions on global development, supply chains, sustainable growth and the concerns of the Global South.

PM Modi's arrival in Geneva follows a high-profile visit to Slovakia, which both sides described as a significant milestone in bilateral relations. Reflecting on the visit, the Prime Minister said the outcomes of his engagements would strengthen cooperation between the two countries and create new opportunities for young people and future generations.

Gets Slovakia's highest honour

During his stay in Slovakia, PM Modi was conferred the country's highest civilian honour, the Order of the White Double Cross, by President Peter Pellegrini in recognition of his contribution to strengthening India-Slovakia relations. The award was seen as a reflection of the growing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to expanding cooperation.

The visit also resulted in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding aimed at deepening collaboration in education, scientific research and labour migration. Both nations agreed to work towards creating greater opportunities for students, researchers and skilled professionals.

Additionally, India and Slovakia reaffirmed their commitment to boosting economic engagement through the India-Slovakia Joint Economic Committee. The two sides discussed measures to increase bilateral trade, attract investments and encourage partnerships between businesses in sectors such as manufacturing, innovation, green technologies and infrastructure.

With his engagements in Slovakia concluded, PM Modi is now set to join world leaders at the G7 Summit, where a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines are also expected to further India's diplomatic and economic interests.
