North Korea is planning to build a war memorial in commemoration of the fallen soldiers in the Ukraine war fighting alongside Russian forces, officials said on Friday.
North Korean leader Kim Jong UN hailed what he called a historic peak in relations with Russia at the ceremony for the Memorial Museum of Combat Feats in the capital, Pyongyang. Kim said, "Pyongyang will always be with Moscow. Our friendship and unity will last forever.”
“The museum we are building is a sacred sanctuary dedicated to the immortality of true patriots,” he added. The war memorial will feature sculptures dedicated to the North Korean soldiers who have fought valiantly alongside the Russian troops, playing the key role in liberating the Kherson region.
The announcement comes just two days after Pyongyang tested a new cutting-edge weapon system involving hypersonic projectiles on Wednesday. Pyongyang said the tests were carried out as part of a defence programme to enhance strategic deterrence against enemies, hinting at South Korea and the US together.

The two projectiles launched on Wednesday had achieved pinpoint accuracy with targets located inside the country's northeast region.
South Korea's military on Thursday confirmed that North Korea fired two back-to-back short-range ballistic missiles. US President Donald Trump is likely to arrive in Seoul on Monday, as he wishes to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a neutral venue amid an intensifying tariff war.
"The United States condemns these unlawful and destabilising actions," US Forces Korea said in a statement, calling on North Korea to refrain from further actions that would violate international sanctions. North Korea has long viewed the US presence in the neighbouring South as a flashpoint for future conflict.
