India-Thailand Military Exercise MAITREE Resumes in Style.

The revival of Exercise MAITREE in Thailand marks a renewed phase of defence cooperation between India and Thailand, aimed at bolstering military interoperability and regional stability through joint training and cultural exchange.

Commencing in Tak Province, Thailand, the 13th edition of Exercise MAITREE launched with a vibrant opening ceremony, marking its return after a hiatus of four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last exercise took place in Umroi, Meghalaya, in 2019.

The ceremony was graced by Lieutenant General Kittipong Jamsuwan, 3rd Corps Commander of the Thailand Army, and Group Captain Brijesh Paul, Defence Attaché from the Indian Air Force to Thailand, as chief guests.

Both leaders highlighted the deep-rooted historical and civilizational ties between their countries, underscoring the exercise's role in strengthening military collaboration.

Symbolising mutual cooperation, Group Captain Paul handed over the Indian Army contingent's flag to Lieutenant General Jamsuwan, marking the formal commencement of joint training activities.

The event also featured interactive sessions between the contingents, fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding. A captivating display of Thai martial arts by the Thailand Army troops showcased their cultural heritage and military prowess.

Exercise MAITREE alternates between India and Thailand, serving as a pivotal platform for sharing experiences, enhancing interoperability, and fortifying bilateral defence relations. This edition aims to build upon past successes, deepening military cooperation and operational synergy.

The resumption of Exercise MAITREE underscores the commitment of India and Thailand to regional security and stability. Beyond honing tactical skills, the exercise promotes mutual respect and understanding, essential for tackling shared security challenges effectively.

As the joint exercise progresses, it is poised to significantly strengthen the defence partnership between India and Thailand, paving the way for future collaborative endeavours.
