Jaishankar pays tribute to Dr. Ambedkar at UNESCO headquarters

The EAM said France was amongst India’s oldest strategic partners and underlined how the two countries are committed to multipolarity to stabilise global politics

Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during a meeting with the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Khaled El-Enany, in Paris.


Union External Affairs Minister (EAM), S Jaishankar, currently in France, paid tributes to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, popularly known as the ‘father of the Indian Constitution’, at the UNESCO headquarters.


Posting about his tribute on Friday, the EAM highlighted how Dr. Ambedkar continues to be a guiding light.


“Paid my respects to Babasaheb Ambedkar @UNESCO Headquarters today. His ideals of social justice and inclusivity are a guiding light for humanity”.

 

 

 


Jaishankar said France was amongst India’s oldest strategic partners and underlined how the two countries are committed to multipolarity, while stressing on the need for bilateral cooperation in helping stabilize global politics. 


Jaishankar also met UNESCO Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, wherein the two talked about India’s commitment to deepening engagement with the UN body.


“Pleased to meet @UNESCO_DG Khaled El-Enany in Paris today. A multilateral world is inherently multicultural. Underlined India's commitment to advance engagement with @UNESCO in culture, education and heritage preservation globally,” Jaishankar later posted on X.

 

 

 


The Union minister later met members of the India-France Parliamentary Friendship Group and parliamentary friends of India, with whom he held discussions on contemporary global developments and possibilities of exploring deeper India-France cooperation that may be driven by a shared strategic outlook.


Earlier on Thursday, the EAM had met French President, Emmanuel Macron, to talk about the global shifts happening in trade and energy. He also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm wishes to the French premier.


Whilst in Paris, Jaishankar addressed the Ambassadors’ Conference of France and held a meeting on Wednesday with his French counterpart, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, in which the two discussed advancing bilateral cooperation and elevating India-EU engagement, while also sharing perspectives on contemporary global developments.


Jaishankar attended the first ‘India-Weimer format meeting’ the same day along with Polish Deputy PM, Radoslaw Sikorski, French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, and German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul. The meeting focused on key issues including India-European Union relations, the Indo-Pacific, and the Ukraine conflict.
