Iran has warned of serious consequences in case the United States military attacks its critical infrastructure in response. The warning from Iran comes a day after United States President Donald Trump threatened to launch massive and punitive strikes on the country, while some inside accounts in the White House said that the strikes may be called off.
A Pentagon spokesperson refused to comment on whether attacks would happen. US Congressman John Larson is set to bring a bill on Trump’s ongoing military operations in Iran. He accused the Trump administration of basically violating congressional votes as casualties and energy costs rise.
“As more of our troops are killed in Iran, and gas prices continue to skyrocket, Congress can’t sit on its hands,” he wrote on X.
“We’ve voted to end this costly conflict twice. It’s time to enforce the law. My bill will cut off all funding for Trump’s illegal Iran war NOW!” he added.
Meanwhile, maritime traffic observer Kpler said on Saturday that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has again dropped sharply, while shipping through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait remains steady. According to data, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped nearly 77 per cent on Thursday alone after only 22 ships transited the Strait.
The data points “to growing divergence across the region’s two strategic chokepoints”, Kpler said.
“With US and Iranian public positions still at odds, operators are closely monitoring traffic volumes, routing behaviour and any diplomatic developments that could reshape risk across regional shipping lanes in the days ahead,” it added.
