Tensions between Iran and Israel have reached a boiling point, with both sides issuing threats of retaliation following a recent attack by Iran. Israel’s military chief, Herzi Halevi, affirmed that the country is prepared to respond to Iran’s aggression, while Iran has warned of deploying "weapons never used before" if Israel strikes back.

Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel, which occurred on April 13, marked the first direct assault by Iran on its arch-foe. The attack, consisting of over 300 missiles and drones, was in retaliation for an airstrike on Tehran’s consulate building in Damascus earlier in April, an incident widely attributed to Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to the escalating crisis, convened his war cabinet for the second time within 24 hours to deliberate on potential courses of action.

While Israel has not announced any decisions yet, Netanyahu emphasised Israel’s determination to defend itself, stating, “Israel will do whatever is required to defend itself”.

Israel's military leadership has made it clear that any attack on its territory will be met with a swift response. The country's military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, reiterated that Israel will retaliate at a time of its choosing, aiming to deter further aggression from Iran.

Amid mounting international pressure to de-escalate the situation, the United States has urged Israel to exercise restraint. White House officials emphasised the need to prevent a regional conflict and called on Israel to consider its response carefully.

In response to the situation, the Group of Seven (G7) nations, led by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, is reportedly working on a coordinated response to Iran's actions. Additionally, China and Russia have urged for restraint, emphasising the importance of avoiding further escalation in the region.

As tensions remain high, Israel has lifted some emergency measures previously implemented, including restrictions on school activities and large gatherings. However, the country remains on alert as the situation continues to unfold.

The international community closely watches the developments in the Middle East, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. Any further escalation could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and global security.
