Iran, as a retaliation has launched missiles towards Israel after the latter started joint air strikes with the US on Tehran today. Explosions rocked northern Israel as the country worked to intercept incoming Iranian missiles. Meanwhile, Bahrain said that a missile attack targeted the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters in the island kingdom. It offered no other immediate information about the attack.
The blasts echoed just after the Israeli military said it would be using its air defence systems to bring down the Iranian fire. Iranian officials have vowed a crushing and all-out response after negotiations over Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes ended without a concrete action plan.
US President Donald Trump defended the strikes, saying, “Action was necessary as Iran poses a threat to American interests in the region and to our allies (Israel in this case). This regime will soon learn that no one should challenge the strength and might of the United States armed forces.”
Speaking on the strikes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says joint attack with US was to 'remove an existential threat posed' by Iran.
According to sources, Israeli and US fighter jets targeted the Iranian parliament, though casualties and possible assassinations remain unconfirmed due to a complete internet blackout in Iran.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that “the entire nation is under a state of emergency, but Iranian missiles remain a potent threat.” Meanwhile, Iran-aligned groups—including Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and other sympathetic organisations—have fired missiles towards Israel in solidarity with Tehran.
Iran, as in previous confrontations, has exercised restraint to assess the damage before launching a full-scale military response.
Sources on Saturday confirmed that Israel and the United States carried out what they described as preventive strikes—deemed illegal under international law—to neutralise threats posed by Iran to Israel.
The sources also confirmed strikes in additional locations in Iran, including Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah and Karaj.
The international community has yet to issue formal comments, particularly from Iran’s key backers—China and Russia—who have recently supplied Tehran with advanced military and surveillance technology.
In the wake of the latest confrontations, the IDF has surged forces to bases and staffed command headquarters, with more troops reinforcing command structures along the borders.
Meanwhile, Iranian news agencies and online sources have reported cyberattacks — possibly linked to Israeli hacking — aimed at causing chaos among the Iranian population.
US experts have warned that an attack on Iran could draw the United States into a long and protracted conflict, resulting in American lives lost. They have criticised President Donald Trump for participating in the strikes on behalf of Israel while diplomatic talks were ongoing. They also believe that the United States has now given Iran a more legitimate reason to procure and develop nuclear weapons.
The reckless move by the United States is sending the wrong signals to other countries in the region and could trigger a nuclear arms race in the near future.
