Anshul Kuncha, a data validation analyst and graduate of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business was shot dead while delivering pizza in Philadelphia, United States.

A young Hyderabad professional who moved to the United States to build a career in data analytics was shot dead while delivering pizzas in Philadelphia, in an incident that his family believes was a deliberate trap.

Anshul Kuncha, a data validation analyst and graduate of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, was working a weekend pizza delivery shift when he was fatally shot in North Philadelphia on Friday midnight, according to US media reports.

Kuncha had completed his Master’s degree in Business Analytics in 2024 after moving to the US in 2022. A recipient of the LeBow Alumni Merit Scholarship, he specialised in data analytics, statistics and business intelligence. Before relocating to the US, he worked with Amazon and Jio Platforms in India and later held several data management and analytics roles in America.

According to reports, Kuncha took up pizza deliveries on weekends to supplement his income. On the night of the incident, he was reportedly called to deliver pizzas to a vacant house within the Raymond Rosen Homes housing complex.

Surveillance footage cited by local media allegedly showed him carrying the order before being followed by two individuals dressed in dark clothing and carrying backpacks.

His sister informed that the family believes the delivery request was a setup. “It was a trap. It was to kill him. I don't know what they gained out of it or what intentions they had. They took my brother and killed him,” she said.

She added that the family had been informed that Kuncha was shot multiple times and left on the road. The family has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance in bringing his mortal remains back to India and ensuring justice in the case.

Describing her brother as hardworking and ambitious, she said he had gone abroad to pursue higher studies and build a better future. She also urged parents to carefully consider the risks faced by students and professionals living overseas.

US authorities are continuing their investigation into the killing. No arrests have been reported so far.
