The Indian Army has chosen a telescopic sight made by an Israeli company to improve daytime optics solution for its NEGEV machine guns, the firm said on Monday.

The Indian Army has selected Meprolight’s MEPRO X6, a fixed 6x magnification sight. It is designed for assault rifles, light machine guns and other weapons that require accuracy, strong build quality and clear optical performance, the company said.

Meprolight will also share technical know-how and manufacturing processes as part of its support for the Make in India programme. The delivery of these sights will be handled through Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), according to the company statement.

To support local production and the Made In India initiative, Meprolight has signed a Transfer of Technology deal with RRP Defence. Under this agreement, the company will transfer the required knowledge and production methods for manufacturing the MEPRO X6 in India.

RRP Defence will produce the sights in India and supply them to BEL, which will act as the main contractor for the Indian Army in this project.

The sight is designed to improve target detection and identification. It offers a wide field of view and reliable performance even in tough weather and operational conditions.

The Army tested the system through detailed user trials and environmental evaluations. These tests focused on accuracy, durability, reliability and ease of use in field conditions.

“The selection of the MEPRO X6 by the Indian Army is a significant milestone, and through our technology transfer partnership, we are proud to contribute not only advanced capability but also to the long-term growth of India’s defence and manufacturing ecosystem”, said senior vice president of Meprolight Golan Kalimi.

The company said the partnership between Meprolight, BEL and RRP Defence will ensure quality equipment, long-term support and sustained operational readiness for the Indian Army.
