The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "courageous" address to the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, on Thursday. The University noted that such diplomatic breakthroughs are being used as a springboard for deepening academic ties between the two nations.
Speaking to a standing ovation from Israeli lawmakers, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism. "We feel your pain. We share your grief," he told the assembly, adding that India stands with Israel with "full conviction." The Prime Minister was clear in his condemnation of violence, stating that no cause could ever justify the murder of civilians.
This diplomatic warmth is already filtering down into the education sector. Only last week, the Hebrew University — an institution that counts Albert Einstein among its founders — inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Nalanda University. A delegation led by Professor Guy Harpaz, the University’s Vice President for International Affairs, recently toured India to bolster research and student exchange programmes.
"At the Hebrew University, we translate diplomatic milestones into deep academic collaborations that shape the shared future of both nations," the institution said in a statement. It added that these partnerships are about more than just international relations; they are designed to create a "foundation for generational scientific excellence," effectively bridging the geographical gap between two world-class centres of learning.
