External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Kuwait on Sunday, where he received a warm welcome from Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya.

 

Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and stated his eagerness to engage with the Kuwaiti leadership in the scheduled meetings.

 

Upon his arrival, Jaishankar shared pictures on social media, writing, "Namaste Kuwait. Thank FM Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya for the warm welcome. Looking forward to my engagements today with the Kuwaiti leadership."

 

The visit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, will allow both nations to review various aspects of their bilateral relationship. This includes discussions on political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and consular matters, as well as people-to-people contacts. The visit also provides an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

 

This visit follows a tragic incident in June where at least 45 Indians lost their lives in a fire at a labour accommodation in Kuwait's Mangaf. Among the deceased, several were from different states across India, with Kerala having the highest number of victims.

 

Prior to his arrival in Kuwait, Jaishankar visited the Maldives from August 9 to 11, where he was greeted by Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer. The visit focused on strengthening the partnership between the two countries and exploring ways to further enhance their bilateral relationship.

 

During his stay, Jaishankar inaugurated High Impact Community Development Projects and exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Maldives' Foreign Minister.
