Cambodian armed forces said on Tuesday that the recent cross-border fire and explosion was an accident after Bangkok accused its neighbouring forces of violating a ten-day-old ceasefire.
The Thai army, in a statement, said, "A military unit in the area was contacted by the Cambodian side, who claimed there was no intention to fire into Thai territory and said the incident was caused by an operational error by Cambodian personnel.”
Bangkok had earlier claimed that Cambodia had violated the ceasefire by “firing at a Thai position along the disputed border between the two countries”.
According to officials, one soldier was injured by shrapnel and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, adding that the soldier’s injuries were "minor" and not life-threatening.
They added that the explosion occurred around 7.25 a.m. local time and that the cause of the blast remains unknown, while an investigation has been initiated.

The confrontations between the two neighbours stem from a decades-old dispute from the colonial era that escalated into military clashes last year before a ceasefire, brokered by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, took effect ten days ago.
The military confrontations have left dozens of people dead and displaced hundreds of thousands of people on both sides. Both sides agreed to end the fighting by signing a truce on December 27, 2025.
Under the latest truce, Cambodia and Thailand pledged to cease fire, freeze troop movement, and limit the number of soldiers deployed along the contested border.
Bangkok also agreed to release 18 Cambodian soldiers held since July, when deadly border clashes that month killed dozens of people.
Thailand freed the Cambodian soldiers on December 31, with its foreign ministry saying their release was "a demonstration of goodwill and confidence-building".
The two sides fought for three consecutive weeks in December last year, after a July truce failed due to a landmine blast that injured two Thai soldiers.
