Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, & Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal will officially submit his candidacy for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Joining him is MP Pradan Baruah, who is expected to file his nomination for the Lakhimpur seat.

Sonowal, a seasoned leader who has previously served as Chief Minister of Assam and held key positions within the BJP, is anticipated to be accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Meanwhile, Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), who is contesting against Sonowal for the same seat, is also scheduled to submit his nomination on the same day.

Additionally, Manoj Dhanowar from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will file his nomination for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat on March 27.

Sonowal's political journey is marked by significant milestones, including his tenure as Chief Minister and leadership roles within Assam's political spectrum.

His transition from the All Assam Students Union (AASU) to the BJP in 2011 reflects his longstanding commitment to public service.

In the upcoming elections, Sonowal will vie for the Dibrugarh seat, replacing the incumbent MP Rameswar Teli.

Teli, who served as Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment, clinched victory in the seat in both 2014 and 2019.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the former general secretary of AASU, and AAP candidate Manoj Dhanowar are also making their electoral debut. Gogoi's foray into parliamentary elections follows his stint in state politics, while Dhanowar, son of veteran Congress MLA Rameshwar Dhanowar, brings a familial legacy to the electoral arena.

The Lok Sabha elections, scheduled in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, will witness a fervent contest across all 543 seats.

In Assam, voting will take place in three phases on April 19, 26, and May 7, with notable constituencies like Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat set to cast their ballots in the first phase.

Vote counting is slated for June 4.
