Hollywood star Kate Winslet was fat-shamed as a teen.
The “Titanic” star, who has often spoken about the “cruelty” she was subjected to for her appearance in the early years of her career, recently revealed that a drama teacher once told her to settle for "fat girl parts" if she wanted a career in acting.
"I was a little bit stocky... When I did start taking it much more seriously and got a child agent, I really remember vividly a drama teacher… and she said to me, 'Well, darling, you’ll have a career if you're ready to settle for the fat girl parts'," Winslet said in a radio interview.
The 50-year-old actress, who is one of the most successful stars of her generation with massive hits like "The Reader" and series like "Mare of Easttown" to her credit, further said: "Look at me now. It's appalling the things people say to children," she added.
The Oscar winner also spoke about being hounded by paparazzi after "Titanic" became a major hit.

"It was horrific. There were people tapping my phone. They were just everywhere. And I was just on my own," said the actor, who was just 22 when the movie came out.
This is not the first time Winslet has spoken about being fat-shamed by her teacher. In a 2024 interview, she got emotional as she recalled the drama teacher’s words. “I was never even fat!” Winslet said, adding that the comments gave her motivation. The actress recalled gaining a “quiet determination” from the criticism.
“It made me think, ‘I’ll just show you––just quietly,’” she explained.
