Director Nag Ashwin's 3D science fiction extravaganza "Kalki 2898 AD" raked in a whopping Rs 555 crore globally during its debut weekend, the production team revealed on Monday.

 

Made with an estimated budget of Rs 600 crore, this multilingual film boasts a stellar ensemble cast that includes Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan.

 

Initially named "Project K", "Kalki 2898 AD" is described as an amalgamation of the Hindu epic Mahabharata and futuristic elements and is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.

 

Vyjayanthi Movies shared the latest box office figures on its official X page, with the caption: "555 CRORES & counting… "The BIGGEST FORCES are dominating the GLOBAL BOX OFFICE, show no signs of slowing down #Kalki2898AD #EpicBlockbusterKalki @SrBachchan @ikamalhaasan #Prabhas @deepikapadukone @nagashwin7 @DishPatani @Music_Santhosh @VyjayanthiFilms @Kalki2898AD @saregamaglobal @saregamasouth." The film had a global release on Thursday in six languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and English.

As per Prathyangira Cinemas, the distributor of the movie in the US, "Kalki 2898 AD" set a new record for the highest first weekend earnings for any Indian film in North America, with a total of USD 10.5 million.

 

The film features Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, and Shobhana, and it is said to be the most expensive movie ever made in Indian cinema history.
