The saying 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' is often countered by 'out of sight, out of mind,' according to Fawad Khan, a popular Pakistani actor. He jokingly addressed his absence from Indian audiences by acknowledging the conflicting sayings.
Fawad gained popularity through Pakistani dramas and made a brief appearance in Hindi films, with his last role being in "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" in 2016. Currently, he is starring in the supernatural show "Barzakh."
"I have always been very thankful to fans who have waited for me, and I apologise for making them wait for so long. But it was not in my hands," the actor told PTI in a Zoom interview.
"I'm a firm believer that everything has its own time... You say that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' but we also have another saying, 'aankh ojhal, pahaad ojhal' (out of sight, out of mind). This also happens," the actor told PTI in an interview over Zoom.
"Barzakh," featuring Fawad Khan and his "Zindagi Gulzar Hai" co-star Sanam Saeed, has created a buzz with its trailers and is now available for streaming on Zindagi's YouTube channel and ZEE5.
Fawad Khan's popularity in the subcontinent has been on the rise since viewers first saw him in "Dastaan" (2010), "Humsafar" (2011), and "Zindagi Gulzar Hai" (2012). He then ventured into Hindi films with "Khubsoorat," "Kapoor & Sons," and "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil." Despite the potential for a successful Bollywood career, tensions between India and Pakistan stalled his progress. However, Fawad, one of Pakistan's most renowned actors, continued to work on international projects and various Pakistani shows and films.
His rise to stardom has been exhilarating but also demanding, given the increasing competition in the industry.
Fawad Khan mentioned that he deliberately maintains a low profile on social media, choosing not to be very active.
"To be able to hold on to your position of being a renowned actor has become more difficult, especially in the age of social media... There are performers and talented people everywhere."
What next? "I can only say that the coming time is going to be very interesting. If you are waiting for my work, there is a lot that's going to come out next year. I feel that everything should happen at its own pace and in a good environment... Hopefully, 2025 will have a lot more content coming from my end," he said.
The 42-year-old also appeared in the Marvel Studio series Ms. Marvel, in which actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar played a prominent role.
