The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch its campaign for the Assam Assembly elections from March 24, a day after the nomination process concludes, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Sarma announced that top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president Nitin Nabin, will spearhead the party’s campaign across the state.
Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, along with Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and party management committee convenor Pradan Baruah, will also take part in the canvassing efforts.
“The campaign will continue till 5 pm on April 7,” Sarma said, outlining the party’s roadmap for the high-stakes polls.

Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9, with counting of votes set for May 4. The BJP earlier in the day released its first list of 88 candidates, signalling the start of an intense electoral battle in the state.
Sarma expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, asserting that the BJP would secure a strong mandate. “I am sure the people of the state will give us overwhelming support and blessings so that we can take the state to a new horizon of development,” he said.
He also thanked Saikia for fielding him from the Jalukbari constituency, from where he is seeking re-election.
With a packed campaign schedule featuring top leadership and state functionaries, the BJP is aiming to consolidate its position in Assam as it seeks another term in office.
