Vote to register dissent against abrogation of Article 370: Mehbooba Mufti

Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti urged people in South Kashmir to exercise their right to vote to send a message to the BJP that the decision to repeal Article 370 on August 5, 2019, was wrong and must be reversed at all costs.

Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti urged people in South Kashmir to exercise their right to vote to send a message to the BJP that the decision to repeal Article 370 on August 5, 2019, was wrong and must be reversed at all costs.

She questioned the government’s decision to postpone polling on the Anantnag-Rajouri LS seat, claiming that these decisions can only be implemented in J&K.

“Polls are never postponed due to severe weather anywhere in the nation, so why not in Jammu and Kashmir?” she asked.

While addressing a mega gathering on Kulgam's DK Marg, Mehbooba said, “People should understand the importance of their votes in influencing the country's Parliament and show their vehement opposition to the decisions taken on August 5, 2019.”

"Vote to make your voices reach the Parliament and tell BJP on its face that the decision taken on August 5, 2019, was wrong and has to be reversed at all costs," she said.

"My passport, my daughter's passport, and my mother's passport were all confiscated. My family was hunted, and even my father's gravesite was not spared.

I was forced homeless in the middle of winter without warning. My own guys, whom my father had trained from the ground up, betrayed our party, but I stood fast because of my people's genuine and widespread support throughout Jammu and Kashmir," Mehbooba said.

Furthermore, "This election will bring an end to years of suffocation." I want to inform these agencies: who are you to seize our lands? This is our state, and we are its residents. "You can't choke us," she added while taking shots at the current LG-led Administration.

The PDP chief said that elections for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat must be held as planned and should not be postponed.

She expressed her concern about underhanded techniques used by certain persons to postpone the elections but stressed that the Election Commission must maintain the legitimacy of the democratic process.

"After a long time, people here have regained trust in the democratic process and are actively participating in it," she said.
