In the wake of the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged liquor policy scam, the Delhi Assembly has taken a significant step.

The scheduled sitting for Friday has been cancelled, with the next session now set for March 27. This decision comes amidst a whirlwind of dramatic developments surrounding Kejriwal's arrest and its political ramifications.

The cancellation of the assembly session marks a pause in the legislative activities of the capital, as the focus shifts to the legal proceedings involving the Chief Minister. Kejriwal's arrest occurred on Thursday evening, following a team from the Enforcement Directorate reaching his residence to interrogate him regarding the liquor policy case.

Despite attempts to secure interim protection from arrest through the Delhi High Court, Kejriwal was detained under dramatic circumstances during a search operation at his residence.

The cancellation announcement came through a statement from the Deputy Secretary, citing the arrest as the reason for the suspension of the assembly sitting. Additionally, the Speaker of the House has determined that the next session will convene on March 27, resuming the legislative agenda after this abrupt interruption.

The arrest of Kejriwal has sparked widespread protests and reactions from various quarters of the political spectrum. Workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged nationwide protests, condemning what they perceive as a desperate move by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to silence opposition voices ahead of elections. Leaders from other parties, including DMK MP Dayanidhi Maaran and Tamil Nadu Minister Sekar Babu, joined in the protests, expressing solidarity with Kejriwal.

AAP leaders have vehemently criticised the BJP, labelling Kejriwal's arrest as a political conspiracy orchestrated by the ruling party. Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, described it as an unprecedented event in the country's history, highlighting the gravity of the situation. However, BJP spokespersons have defended the ED's actions, asserting that the law must take its course and emphasising the need for accountability in governance.

Amidst the political turmoil, leaders from the opposition INDIA bloc have rallied behind Kejriwal, condemning what they perceive as the misuse of investigative agencies for political vendettas. The controversy surrounding Kejriwal's arrest adds to the ongoing legal battles involving other AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, who are currently in judicial custody in connection with the same excise policy case.

As the dust settles on these developments, all eyes will be on the forthcoming assembly session on March 27, where the political fallout of Kejriwal's arrest is likely to dominate discussions and debates.
