Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP government at the Centre on Thursday, accusing it of "freezing" Congress' bank accounts and asserting that democracy was under threat in the country.

 

Gehlot condemned the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that the BJP was willing to resort to any means to secure victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

 

Addressing a press conference at the Congress office, Gehlot stated, "Democracy is being undermined in the country. It's evident that without the consent of Modi ji and Amit Shah, no decision is made at the Centre." He predicted that such actions by the BJP government would eventually lead to the party's downfall.

 

"The nation is facing a perilous phase... the Constitution is being trampled," Gehlot remarked.

 

His remarks followed former Congress president Sonia Gandhi's demand for access to the party's bank accounts to ensure fairness in the Lok Sabha polls. Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of systematically crippling the party financially.

 

Congress leaders Govind Singh Dotasra and Tikaram Jully also criticized the BJP and the central government over this issue.

 

Dotasra commented, "Since Modi ji assumed office in 2014, democracy has been under constant attack. Opposition parties are being targeted, and constitutional institutions are being misused."

 

In a subsequent post on social media platform X, Gehlot asserted, "The BJP is on a mission to dismantle democracy! By freezing Congress' bank accounts and arresting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP, implicated in the massive electoral bond scam, has signaled its willingness to employ any tactic to secure victory in elections." He added, "The BJP's authoritarian tendencies seek to replicate systems akin to those in China and Russia by suffocating the electoral process."
