According to sources, the Commission's decision came after two violent episodes involving the use of weapons and explosives.

IPS officer Mukesh, holding the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) and serving as DIG of the Murshidabad Range have been relieved from his duties by the EC.

The Election Commission has taken decisive action in response to recent violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, ordering the removal of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) due to alleged "lack of supervision" during the incidents.

According to sources, the Commission's decision came after two violent episodes involving the use of weapons and explosives.

IPS officer Mukesh, who holds the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) and serves as DIG of the Murshidabad Range, is being relieved of his duties in light of the situation.

On March 19, the Election Commission appointed IPS officer Sanjay Mukherjee as the new Director-General of Police (DGP) for West Bengal. This decision came a day after the election body transferred the state's current DGP, Rajeev Kumar.

The Commission, which had previously expressed a policy of zero tolerance towards election-related violence during a visit to the state prior to the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, is adhering to its stance of holding higher authorities accountable.

The high-profile constituency of Murshidabad experienced violence on Eid, with reports indicating clashes between rival groups associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Notable candidates contesting in the constituency include Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former India cricketer Yusuf Pathan from the TMC, and Gouri Shankar Ghosh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
