The release of the list of star campaigners by the Congress party for the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections has set the stage for a crucial political showdown in one of India's most significant electoral battlegrounds.

With stalwarts like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra leading the charge, the Congress aims to assert its presence in a state where it has faced formidable challenges in recent years.

The inclusion of other prominent leaders such as Salman Khurshid, Ashok Gehlot, and Sachin Pilot underscores the party's strategy to deploy a diverse lineup to rally support and convey a strong message to voters across the state. As Uttar Pradesh gears up for the second phase of voting on April 26, the political landscape is rife with tension and anticipation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks, lashing out at the opposition INDIA bloc and cautioning against attempts to tamper with reservation rights, have injected additional fervour into the electoral discourse.

Modi's emphasis on safeguarding the interests of the OBC community resonates deeply in a state where caste dynamics play a pivotal role in shaping electoral outcomes.

In his address at a public rally in Agra, PM Modi took a veiled dig at the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance, accusing them of pursuing appeasement politics and attempting to manipulate reservation policies for electoral gains.

He cited past instances where the Congress allegedly sought to alter OBC reservation criteria, framing it as a threat to social justice and equity.

The seat-sharing agreement between the Congress and Samajwadi Party allocates 17 and 63 seats, respectively, reflecting a strategic alliance aimed at maximising electoral prospects.

However, the electoral landscape remains fiercely contested, with the BJP emerging as a dominant force in the 2019 elections, securing a significant majority of seats in Uttar Pradesh.

With the first phase of voting already underway and subsequent phases scheduled until June 1, Uttar Pradesh is poised for a protracted electoral battle that will shape the political trajectory of the state.

The outcome of these elections will not only determine the composition of Uttar Pradesh's representation in Parliament but also have far-reaching implications for the national political landscape.
