The top leadership of the Indian National Congress is convening its ‘Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting’ on Saturday evening, to discuss Lok Sabha faces for Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi.

Headed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, the CEC will meet today at around 4 pm.

The meeting is likely to address the candidates put forward by the screening committees of Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar, according to the sources.

While the grand old party is yet to announce the candidates, other parties in the mentioned states have already started their election campaigning for the approaching Lok Sabha polls.

Punjab is set to go for polls for 13 Lok Sabha seats in the seventh phase on June 1, while Haryana is for the sixth phase for 10 Lok Sabha seats.

The election for Bihar's Lok Sabha seats is split into seven phases.

Meanwhile, Kharge on Friday claimed there is an invisible undercurrent in favour of the opposition INDIA bloc in the coming Lok Sabha polls, fearing which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is campaigning extensively.

He challenged Modi to take an oath on the Rama statue in Ayodhya temple and say whether he gave the promised Rs 15 lakh to each individual from the black money he is supposed to have brought back to the country, doubled the income of farmers, provided two crore jobs and gave minimum support price to farmers.

He chants god’s name and crushes poor people with price rises. If poor people are surviving, it’s because of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and the five guarantees of the Congress government in Karnataka,” the former union minister said.
