In response to the terrorist attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leaders Malikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi expressed their condemnation and condolences.

 

Kharge, in a statement on X, described the attack as "cowardly" and expressed solidarity with the nation against terrorism. He extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased air warrior and wished a speedy recovery for the injured personnel.

 

Rahul Gandhi echoed similar sentiments, denouncing the attack as "shameful and sad" in a social media post on X. He paid tribute to the martyred soldier and offered condolences to his family, while also expressing hopes for the quick recovery of the injured.

 

The terrorist attack resulted in the death of one IAF personnel and injuries to four others. The incident occurred in the Surankote-Mendhar area of Poonch district, prompting swift evacuation and medical treatment for the injured personnel.

 

Following the attack, security forces initiated search and cordon operations in the area, with the Rashtriya Rifles unit leading efforts to secure the vicinity. Measures were taken to safeguard vehicles within the air base premises.

 

The timing of the attack coincides with ongoing elections in Jammu and Kashmir, conducted in multiple phases from April 19 to May 20, raising concerns about security during the electoral process.
