Re-polling commenced at eight voting stations across four areas of Arunachal Pradesh today, following the cancellation of initial voting on April 19 due to reports of violence and booth takeovers.

 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) made the decision to conduct re-voting after incidents of violence and forceful takeover of booths marred the initial polling process.

 

Today's re-voting, which began at 6 am and will continue till 2 pm, aims to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process in the state.

 

The initial round of voting for 50 state assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats witnessed participation from 2,226 polling stations across Arunachal Pradesh.

 

While the ruling BJP secured victory in 10 assembly seats uncontested, a total of 133 candidates are vying for the remaining 40 assembly seats, with 14 candidates contesting for the two Lok Sabha seats.

 

The electoral fate of these candidates will be determined by 888,816 voters, comprising 433,760 males and 449,050 females.

 

Chief Electoral Officer Pawan Kumar Sain announced the re-polling decision on Sunday, declaring the polling in the eight stations as void.

 

The re-polling stations include Sario in Bameng assembly constituency, Longte Loth under Nyapin assembly seat, and polling booths in Nacho and Rumgong assembly constituencies.

 

Changlang South and Kanubari constituencies recorded the highest voter turnout at 91 percent, while the state capital witnessed a lower turnout of 33 percent.

 

Following today's re-voting, the sealed fate of 133 assembly seat candidates and 14 Lok Sabha candidates will await counting, scheduled for June 2 and June 4, respectively.
