A case has been lodged against K Annamalai, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu and the party's candidate for the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore, over allegations of violating election campaign regulations.

The incident occurred in the Avarampalayam area, where Annamalai was accused of campaigning past the legally permitted time of 10 pm.

The Coimbatore District BJP Secretary, Ramesh, was also implicated in the case, as stated in the First Information Report (FIR). This development follows a large-scale roadshow that featured Annamalai alongside Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nara Lokesh, marking a show of solidarity between the BJP and TDP after their recent reunion within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

During the roadshow, Lokesh lauded Annamalai as a vibrant and committed leader, noting his significant grasp of the local issues highlighted during his recent 'padayatra' or foot march throughout the region.

The timing of the campaign activities has drawn scrutiny, especially as Tamil Nadu gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19, which will see all 39 seats in the state go to the polls.

The BJP and TDP have announced their alliance for both the Lok Sabha and the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, set to take place simultaneously on May 13, under the banner of the rejuvenated NDA. This strategic partnership was confirmed by BJP National President JP Nadda in a recent statement.

The political atmosphere is highly charged, with the counting of votes set for June 4. The case against Annamalai adds a layer of controversy to the campaign, highlighting the intense scrutiny and the high stakes involved in this electoral battle.

As the situation unfolds, both the BJP and Annamalai will need to navigate these legal and electoral challenges carefully, maintaining focus on their campaign while adhering to the established codes of conduct.
