India’s tea production fell in September 2025, with the states of Assam and West Bengal registering a greater decline than the southern states.
While the overall tea production in the country declined 5.9 per cent in September at 159.92 million kg as against 169.93 million kg in the similar previous period, Tea Board data shows production of crop in Assam stagnating while the production in West Bengal falling.
Tea production in Assam during September remained at 94.76 million kg as compared to 94.03 million kg in the same period of 2024; but the production in West Bengal declined to 40.03 million kg in September from 48.35 million kg in the same month of 2024.

This brought tea output in north India, comprising the states of Assam and West Bengal, to 138.65 million kg in September 2025 from 146.96 million kg in the same month in 2024.
In South India, production declined only marginally to 21.27 million kg in September, as against 22.97 million kg in the same month of 2024, according to the data.
